McCann School of Business & Technology Opens Lehigh Valley Campus

Lehigh Valley, Pa – The McCann School of Business and Technology, private, for profit two year school, announced today (Wednesday, March 25) that it is now accepting students for its new Lehigh Valley campus, which will begin classes May 2009. The school will offer students affordable, occupational associate degree programs that match today’s workplace skills and needs.

“We are very excited to be adding to the Lehigh Valley’s rich tradition of higher education,” said Joseph Reichard, campus president. “ The McCann School has had a long history of success in northeastern and central Pennsylvania, starting back in 1897 in Mahanoy City. We look forward to bringing that same high-quality, career-focused education to the Lehigh Valley,” said Reichard.

The Lehigh Valley campus will offer three courses of study when it first opens – medical assisting, business administration and criminal justice - but has the flexibility to expand core offerings and add new programs quickly and efficiently. When fully operational, the McCann school will offer approximately 500 students a wide variety of degree and diploma programs, all designed to meet the current needs of local employers.

McCann will employ 45 full-time faculty and adjunct professors in a newly renovated 30,000 square-foot facility in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park III. The McCann schools historically maintain a 15/1 student-to-faculty ratio with each student assigned a professional staff member to assist with career and job placement services.

McCann builds a nurturing but structured learning environment at each school, with a dress code related to each field of employment and a strict attendance policy. Because of its clear mission and defined set of goals, a high percentage of McCann students graduate. In fact, the graduation rate at a McCann school is approximately 87 percent, as reported by the U.S. Department of Education. “Additionally, numbers from the accreditation agencies show that the McCann schools have a more than 85 percent success rate in placing graduates in their fields of study,” Reichard said. “This is due in large part to the excellent partnerships we have established with local businesses and our focus on market demands.”

The McCann School of Business and Technology is accredited to award occupational associate degrees and diplomas by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, a nationally recognized accrediting agency of the United States Department of Education. Additionally, McCann is authorized by the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to confer the degree of Associate in Specialized Business/Technology for completion of certain two-year programs and is licensed by the State Board of Private Licensed Schools, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The McCann School of Business & Technology was founded by Louis C. McCann in 1897 at Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, as a school for accountancy and secretarial training. As McCann enters into its112th year of excellence in higher education, it now offers degree-training programs at five campuses: Dickson City, Hazleton, Lehigh Valley, Pottsville and Sunbury. The McCann schools, operated locally, are privately owned by Delta Career Education Corporation of Virginia Beach, Va. Delta also operates Berks Technical Institute in Wyomissing, Pa.
