McCann Hosts Career Day Event for High School Students

POTTSVILLE (11/2/17) The Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business & Technology will be hosting a Career Day event on Friday, November 3, 2017 to assist High School Juniors and Senior with career exploration. Approximately 110 students, representing Pottsville, Minersville, Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua, Tri-Valley school districts as well as Gillingham Charter School and Marian Catholic will be in attendance.  The purpose of this event is to assist students with gaining a better understanding of the roles of professionals working in the allied health, HVAC/R, electrical, information technology, business, massage therapy and automotive fields.  Students will select four industries that interest them and will attend a 40 minute session on each career field.

During this event, community business leaders will discuss careers within their industry, future job growth on the local and national level, and the educational path toward that end. McCann Program Directors will also provide a hands-on activity within each discipline to help students gain additional insight into the roles and tasks of each profession.  The community leaders scheduled to attend are: Mark Weiderhold, Cougle’s Recycling Inc.; Vanessa Mihoda,  Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce; Christian Alexis, Hydro Extrusions, will talk about business careers.  Dominic Sylvester, Bob Weaver Chevrolet, and Brendan McCormick & Sarah Suwak from Jack Williams Tire will discuss Automotive Technician jobs.  Lisa Schenck, St Lukes Miners and  Jennifer Dubois & Kimberly Jones from The Primary Health Network will talk about Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Careers. Pennsylvania State Police Trooper David Beohm, Tim Mubley, Schuylkill County Juvenile Probation; and Gerry Daley, Schuylkill County Sheriffs Office will discuss careers in the legal and criminal justice fields.   Tim Coyle, Mrs. T’s Pierogies and Austin Siple, Blue Mountain School District will promote careers in the field of Information Technology.  Rebecca Hepler, Licensed Massage Therapist and Diane Bressi, The SPA at McCann will discuss massage therapy career paths and students will make an exfoliating scrub utilized in a spa environment.   Tim Brady, McCann HVAC/R Program Director, will assist students with an activity that applies the principles of electrical theory.   

“McCann hosts this event on an annual basis to help high school students gain greater insight about what it is like to work in a particular job and how plentiful those jobs will be in the near future,” said Shannon Brennan, Campus Director.  The event begins at 9am and ends at 1230pm with lunch provided by McCann.
