McCann School of Business & Technology Seeking Volunteers for Income Tax Assistance Workshop

Pottsville, Pa. (January 8, 2016) – McCann School of Business & Technology, 2650 Woodglen Rd., is looking for volunteers to conduct its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) workshops. Volunteers can attend a VITA training session at McCann on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Schuylkill Community Action (SCA) representatives will give them the necessary tools to become IRS certified and facilitate VITA workshops.

“Schuylkill Community Action is always looking for more volunteers,” said Jennifer Slifka, Director of Program Services at Schuylkill Community Action. “With the help of our volunteers, we have been able to increase the amount of credit people get back from taxes. We help people earn back their money at no cost to them, while many agencies charge up to $150.”

The VITA program is part of the SCA “Schuylkill Money in your Pocket Campaign” dedicated to promoting Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) outreach in Schuylkill County. The VITA Program provides hard working families with free tax preparation, helping those who qualify receive an earned income tax credit. McCann is now a VITA host facility, offering families tax preparation and electronic filing.

The training session is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required.
