McCann Success Story is a Family Affair

Pottsville, PA (10/17/16) – The recent graduation ceremony for the Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business & Technology was a family affair for one couple as well as a true success story.  Kevin Marchetti and his significant other, Sandra Pinkstone were both awarded Associate Degrees at the Graduation Ceremony held at Hillcrest Hall by the Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business & Technology.

“This milestone was a testament to the fact that hard work and dedication pay off,” said Eleanor Marchetti, Mr. Marchetti’s mother.  At age 17, Mr. Marchetti found himself married and expecting his first child. The then high school senior quit school and began working full time as a CDL driver to support his family.  He later went on to earn his GED, but had always hoped to one day go to college.  However, he was busy supporting his growing family which ultimately grew to include seven children and five grandchildren.  In 2008, Kevin began working as a driver with National Freight and was promoted to Logistics Supervisor in 2012, making him responsible for 50 drivers and 13 team members.

In 2014, Mr. Marchetti found himself in a positon where his career had advanced and his children were mostly grown (the oldest age 21 and the youngest age 13) but there was still something missing.   He decided to enroll in the Network Administration and Security Program at the Pottsville Campus of McCann.

Mr. Marchetti encouraged his significant other, Ms. Pinkstone to also enroll in school.  She began studying in the Office Technology - Medical Program.  While the couple originally met in 1995, they went their separate ways after high school and only began dating in 2004 after they found themselves single once again.  Mr. Marchetti was selected as Class Valedictorian for his exemplary academic achievement as well as his contributions to the community and the campus.  During his time at McCann, he assisted in coordinating two technology fairs where students repaired student and community computers at no cost. Mr. Marchetti also worked on a project to refurbish computers for the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts. During the Graduation Ceremony on Monday, October 3rd, Mr. Marchetti and Ms. Pinkstone were each awarded Associate Degrees.

On Wednesday, October 12th, Mr. Marchetti was inducted into the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society and presented with an honorary gold key, symbolizing continued knowledge, integrity and excellence.  The award ceremony was attended by McCann Faculty, Ms. Pinkstone and Kevin’s parents, Robert and Eleanor Marchetti.

During the induction ceremony, Mr. Marchetti said, “I’m 39 years old, I earned an Associate Degree, I own my own home, own my vehicles, I have a great career, a wonderful family including seven children and five grandchildren and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
