To gain a better understanding of what you can learn during your training, here are a few of the courses you may take in our Medical Clinical Assisting program:
Pathology: The course examines the disease process for all body systems as well as how each disease process affects the body as a whole. Students can learn the proper methods to successfully educate patients and their family members on the disease process, prevention, and health maintenance.
Clinical Specialties: This competency-based course teaches the skills necessary to perform selected diagnostic procedures used in general medicine and specialty physician offices. Skills include: assisting with surgical procedures; specialty examination; medication administration; allergy testing; electrocardiography; respiratory testing; wound care; catheterization; and assisting patients to prepare for diagnostic imaging studies. Risk management, HIPAA, infection control, safety, and bloodborne pathogen precautions are stressed.
Medical Insurance Billing: Students can learn Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Traditional Insurance, and Government Sponsored Plans guidelines including completing and processing insurance claims. Methods of pre-certification, pre-authorization, and referrals may also be examined.
